Dr. Carlson and I often get asked how we help people with neurological conditions such as post-conussion syndrome, vertigo, and chronic pain. It all comes down to concept of neuroplasticity. It use to be thought the after a certain amount of time, whether due to aging, or a certain amount of time after an injury, that the brain became fixed. That the brain was stuck the way it is. Now neural science has proven that the brain can can always change change if it is given the proper stimulus and metabolic environment. Once a patient receives a physical and neurological examination, we can see what pathways are not firing off appropriately, and then we can drive those pathways within the patients metabolic capacity to change get rid of the root cause of the symptoms that the patient came in with. We may use vestibular drills, vision drills, therapeutic exercise, and even chiropractic manipulative therapy to cause neuroplasticity to take place.
Watch the video above for a simple explanation of neuroplasticity.
